Meet Dr Mudar Zand Irani
Dr. Mudar Zand Irani is a Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist with expertise in gastrointestinal motility/functional disorders, IBD, hepatology and advanced endoscopy. He also focuses on gastrointestinal cancer prevention, inflammatory bowel disease, and eosinophilic/allergic gut disorders.
Interests:
Functional and motility gut disorders including irritable bowel, allergic and microbiome disorders- ongoing research and recruitment for trials
Cancer detection, including large colon polypectomies (EMR), Barrett’s oesophagus and pancreaticobiliary disorders
Metabolic liver disorders
Inflammatory bowel disease
An academically focused physician, Mudar has several publications with globally renowned research groups including the Mayo Clinic and Karolinska Institutet (Noble assembly institute). Mudar is one of few Australian PhD candidates in Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease and other related functional gut disorders under the supervision of Laureate Professor Talley. He has authored papers in prestigious journals such as the Lancet, Human Pathology, and Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. He holds a Master in Public Health (Distinction) from the University of Newcastle and is an affiliate researcher with the NHMRC. He is a conjoint lecturer at the University of Newcastle.
Dual-trained as a Gastroenterologist and a specialist in General and Acute Care Medicine, Mudar has over 10 years of experience in metropolitan hospitals across NSW and the ACT. His training includes a two-year fellowship in GI motility and an interventional endoscopy fellowship with training in double- balloon enteroscopy.
