    FAQs

Everything you need to know about Newington Medical Centre

    • What is PRP?
Plate-Rich Plasma [PRP] is the concentrated solution of the patient's own platelets, containing growth factors and other healing factors. These factors help stimulate the body's natural healing processes. Patient's blood is collected and processed immediately to concentrate the platelets and injected into the affected area.
    • How fast will it work?
Depending on the condition getting treated, some patients experience relief within a week of the first injection, but results vary widely, and improvement may take several weeks or months.
    • How many treatments will I need?
After an initial series of injections (often 3), booster treatments may be recommended. The number of treatments needed depends on the severity of the problem and individual response.
    • Are there side effects?
Potential side effects are generally mild and may include pain, swelling, or bruising at the injection site. Infection is rare, with a risk of less than 1%.
    • Who should not receive PRP?
Individuals who are pregnant, have cancer or have blood clotting disorders should not receive PRP. Those with an active infection or other certain medical conditions need to be evaluated in the initial consultation to determine suitability.
    • Can I receive other treatments?
PRP therapy can and should be combined with other treatments like physical therapy.
